Diversity Committee

This Committee was established to attract to SPSSI and support scholars representing diverse populations or doing work on these populations. A major focus of the Diversity Committee has been increasing representation and supporting the work of ethnic minorities in SPSSI, although it is within its purview to expand its focus to other underrepresented groups such as people from working class backgrounds, sexual minorities, or first generation college students/graduates.

The Chair (and co-Chair) are appointed by the President. One Co-Chair must be a member of Council. The other co-Chair does not have to be a member of Council. Leadership of this committee serves on an academic year basis, with the new chair beginning his or her term in September, and serving for one year. In addition to the chair, there are typically five other members of the committee.

The Committee oversees the selection of diversity travel award recipients for SPSSI conferences, organizes special group meetings at conferences (SPSSI and APA), and develops other activities and initiatives to increase and support diversity within SPSSI.
