SPSSI Representative to APA Council 







Dr. Richard M. Suinn is Professor Emeritus at Colorado State University where he was Head, Department of Psychology from 1973-1993. He has held positions at the University of Hawaii, Stanford Medical School, and Whitman College. He has also served as city councilperson and mayor of the City of Fort Collins. He was the first to be appointed as team sport psychologist for a U.S. Olympic Team, and served in this capacity for several Winter and Summer Olympic Teams. He has authored over 150 articles, 8 books, 5 psychological tests on ethnic minority issues, behavior therapy, stress management and sport psychology.
 
He was on the APA Board of Directors from 1990-1993, and elected APA president in 1999. He has also been chair of several APA Boards/Committees: Education & Training Board, Board of Convention Affairs, Board of Ethnic Minority Affairs, Membership Committee. In addition he has been a member of the APA Good Governance Committee, the Policy and Planning Board, and the Publication and Communications Board. He was on SPSSI Council from 1996-1999. He has also been president of the Association for Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies, and on the Board of Directors of the Asian American Psychological Association.
