2010 Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring Award Winner (Undergraduate Institutions)
Dr. Kris Vasquez, Alverno College Professor Vasquez has been at Alverno College since 1999. Her mentorship and teaching of underpriveledged, under-represented minority, and first-generation female college students has earned her a reputation of being a highly sought-after professor in the student body. Dr. Vasquez is also highly respected among her peers and has been noted as a "teacher's teacher," making "contribution[s] to developing her colleagues as educators." Professor Vasquez’s interest in and commitment to teaching as well as her concern for the dignity and intellectual development of each student is reflected through the application of her methods. From the professional choices she has made to the critical, caring perspective to her own and others’ teaching, she demonstrates the qualities that SPSSI, her students, and her colleagues justifiably honor.
