2009 Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring Award Winner (Graduate Institutions)

Dr. Ram Mahalingam, University of Michigan

Dr. Mahalingam frequently works with psychology students at all levels, and has inspired both graduates and undergraduates alike. In addition to his research on immigration, gender and caste, Professor Mahalingam has created opportunities to engage in novel and global experiences for his students. Among these include a trip to India with undergraduate African American female students, which has been described as "life-altering" and "incredibly creative." Professor Mahalingam's support for minority students at both undergraduate and graduate levels, the integration between his work and mentorship, and his commitment to SPSSI-oriented activities and research is impressive and worthy of acknowledgement. More information about Professor Mahalingam can be found here.
