Personal and Professional Background:
I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at UCLA. Holistically, my research suggests that inclusive multicultural settings (i.e., schools, workplaces) have a powerful yet often untapped opportunity to leverage identity in negatively stereotyped and/or low power groups. More specifically, my research highlights the potential for inclusive multicultural practices within mainstream settings to have positive consequences for identity and to advantageously impact an array of meaningful social outcomes including addressing educational disparities, improving intergroup attitudes, and enhancing health and well-being outcomes. My research reflects a profound desire to produce scholarship that impacts diversity and equality through science and public policy. This desire fits with and can further SPSSI’s legacy of pioneering research, teaching and service that is interdisciplinary, innovative, and at the frontiers of academic fields and social justice.
