Call For Proposals: SPSSI at the APA

125th APA Annual Convention Washington D.C., August 3-6, 2017

Each year, SPSSI, in its role as Division 9 of the American Psychological Association (APA), sponsors programs and sessions of interest to our members at the APA Annual Convention. To highlight the many ways that psychological science can help to address social issues, the SPSSI theme at the 2017 APA Annual Convention in Washington D.C. will be: Moving Toward Social Justice and Equity: Insights for Research, Policy, and Practice. Consistent with this theme, invited speakers, special symposia, and a data blitz session will focus on basic and applied research on social justice-related topics, with a special emphasis on how psychological science can be used as a vehicle for social change. Sessions will also focus on interventions and public policies that address the theme.

Proposals can be submitted for two types of programming this year.

(1) Collaborative proposals (Due October 14) are reviewed by the Central Programming Group at APA Submitters must select at least two relevant divisions to sponsor collaborative proposals. Innovative and interactive formats with broad appeal are especially encouraged. If you are considering submitting collaborative programming, please consider including SPSSI as one of the relevant divisions for your proposal. As your program co-chairs, we would be happy to put interested speakers in contact with one another to facilitate collaborative proposals.

(2) Divisional proposals (Due December 1) are reviewed by SPSSI members and will be accepted into the SPSSI program. We are accepting proposals for symposia, single-speaker papers, posters, panel discussions and skill-building sessions in ALL areas of psychology relevant to social issues. However, we extend a special call for proposals that are consistent with our conference theme.

Proposals should be submitted online via the APA website: link. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or ideas about proposals and programming.
