2017 Innovative Teaching Award Honorable Mention

Eric Julian Manalastas teaches at the Department of Psychology, University of the Philippines (UP).  He has an MSc in gender and sexuality from the University of Amsterdam, a postgraduate certificate in LGBT health policy and practice from the George Washington University, and additional training from the International LGBT Psychology Summer Institute at the University of Michigan. His research publications include work on homonegativity in the Philippines, Filipino LGB health disparities, and friendships across sexual orientation.

Since 2010 for ten semesters running, Eric has designed and taught a undergraduate course on LGBT psychology, the first of its kind in the region. From 2011 to 2014, Eric also served as deputy director of the UP Center for Women's Studies (UPCWS), where he spearheaded LGBT initiatives, including the establishment of the first LGBT library collection open to the public in the country. The founding coordinator of the LGBT Psychology Special Interest Group of the Psychological Association of the Philippines, Eric is also the proud faculty advisor of UP Babaylan, the oldest-running university-based LGBT student organization in Asia.
