Doug Gentile

 

 

Dr. Douglas Gentile studies the varied effects that media can have, with the goal of maximizing the benefits and minimizing the harms on children, adolescents, and adults.  His research has made valuable contributions to several socially relevant issues, including on Internet Gaming Disorder, media ratings, obesity prevention, media violence, and pro-social video game effects. His work has been supported by the NICHD, CDC, USDA, Singapore Ministry of Education, and the Australian Research Council.  He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association (Divisions 9 and 46) and the Association of Psychological Science.  He was honored with the Distinguished Scientific Contributions to Media Psychology award (Division 46) and was named one of the Top 300 Professors in the U.S. by the Princeton Review.  He received his B.A. in Psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Child Psychology at the University of Minnesota.
