Sarah Herrmann, Associate Professor, Weber State University

In the last few weeks, I have been participating in several meetings to prepare for our upcoming conference in Denver. As I engage with other members of the SPSSI community, I am reminded of the important work in research, teaching, and advocacy that SPSSI members continuously pursue. Throughout this issue, we see examples of an ongoing commitment to utilize research to address inequality and transform our world.

This issue of?The Forward?highlights the ongoing work of SPSSI in the community through publications and the upcoming conference.?SPSSI President Abigail Stewart discusses her efforts to implement SPSSI’s strategic plan for diversity and inclusion and the ways it will shape the upcoming conference. We receive reports from several of our journals, including:

  • Ann Bettencourt and Michael Zárate discuss the two years they have spent editing Social Issues and Policy Review and review the upcoming volume of the journal.

  • Chris Aberson reviews his six year editorship of Analyses of Social Issues and Public Policy (ASAP) and hopes for the future of the journal.

Additionally, we hear from a variety of contributors at this year’s upcoming conference:

  • Apryl Alexander and Ben Blankenship discuss the 2023 SPSSI Summer Conference.

  • John Jost previews his 2023 Kurt Lewin Address, “Both-Sideology in Social Psychology: A Full-Throated Critique.”

  • The Teaching and Mentoring Committee present their special sessions, including the SPSSI Teaching Award Winners Symposium, a Q&A mentoring session, and the SPSSI Teaching and Mentoring Grants, Awards, and Resources: Learning Session.

  • Jackie Verrilli of the Graduate Student Committee discusses the GSC preconference, “What They Don’t Teach You in Graduate School.”
