2023 Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring Award Winner:

Salena Brody, professor of instruction in Psychology and assistant director for the Center for Teaching and Learning at UT Dallas, earned her PhD and MS in Social Psychology at the University of California, Santa Cruz and her undergraduate degree at Boston College. Brody teaches a variety of courses including the Psychology of Prejudice, Intergroup Emotion and Social Change, Good Trouble, Introduction to Psychology, Social Psychology, and Workplace Psychology. Her courses address social issues and encourage students to use psychology for the public good. Her scholarly interests include intergroup contact, social change, and inclusive pedagogies.

Brody's work with the Center for Teaching and Learning brings faculty together to build teaching competencies, solve challenging dilemmas, and develop innovative classroom practices. Additionally, she created a campus program that creates opportunities for students to work closely with faculty in short-term project-based settings. The goal of the Short-Term Working Group program is to help increase the number of undergraduate students who have access to high impact practices that lead to opportunities post-graduation. Her recognitions include the UT System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award, the UT Dallas President’s Teaching Excellence Award, the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues Innovative Teaching award, the Aage Møller Teaching Excellence award, and the UT Dallas Women Leading in Diversity award. She was recently named a Fellow in the UT System Academy of Distinguished Teachers.
