2023 Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring Honorable Mention:

Dr. Ryan Pickering is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Allegheny College in Northwest Pennsylvania. He teaches courses on prejudice, power, social class and other contemporary social issues. His current research focuses on social class disclosure, stress, and teaching social class and oppression. Dr. Pickering has served as the co-chair of the Early Career Scholars committee, the chair of the Distinguished Service Award Selection Committee, and on the Audit and Finance Committee for SPSSI and as the Vice Chair of APA's Committee on Socioeconomic Status. Dr. Pickering was awarded the 2022 SPSSI Speaker at the National Institute for Teaching of Psychology and an honorable mention for both the 2019 Innovative Teaching Award and the 2023 Outstanding Teaching & Mentoring Award. Dr. Pickering earned his doctorate in Social Psychology at the University of Maine and his bachelor's degree in Psychology at the University of Maine at Farmington. He is a queer, first-generation college student from a low-income, rural background and is committed to prejudice reduction, social justice, teaching, and the liberal arts.
