Emily Fisher is an Associate Professor of Psychological Science at Hobart & William Smith Colleges. She earned a PhD in social psychology, with a concentration in political psychology,  from University of Minnesota in 2011, and earned a BA in psychology at University of Wisconsin – Madison in 2003. Her research focuses on applied issues of motivated cognition and intergroup relations, and she has recently published work exploring when and how science education can reduce motivated reasoning about climate change and other politicized scientific issues; and on how ideological identities influence the way people perceive the communities they belong to and the behaviors of groups within their communities. Working at a teaching-focused college, she spends much of her time in the classroom and mentoring undergraduates. She has been a SPSSI member since 2005. She also serves on the Board of Education for her local public school district.
