Executive Director

Anila Balkissoon, M.S. Ms. Balkissoon has served SPSSI for more than a decade, previously as SPSSI’s Program Director.  Chief responsibilities include executive level operations and governance support, and leadership of staff programs and membership services. She holds a bachelor’s degree from The George Washington University, a master’s degree in Nonprofit Organization & Association Management from the University of Maryland, and brings extensive experience in working with nonprofits in the DC area.  In addition to her work with SPSSI, she has done advocacy work with the DC Rape Crisis Center, led tutoring programs for local low-income youth, and participated in grassroots efforts with the ACLU.  She has served on the governing board of a local nonprofit organization, The Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of DC (YNPNdc) managing initiatives aimed to create opportunity and professional development for DC area professionals in the sector.  She is a Fellow of the International Center for Research on Women (formerly NCRW) of New York City, part of the Emerging Leaders Network.
