This briefing (1) highlighted reproductive health disparities affecting immigrant women, (2) addressed factors contributing to their poor reproductive health outcomes, and (3) offered policy recommendations to improve immigrant women’s reproductive health. Our hosts for this event were Representatives Michael Honda (CA) and Madeleine Z. Bordallo (GU).

The distinguished panel of speakers included:

Irene Frieze, Ph.D., Moderator; Professor of Psychology, University of Pittsburgh; Editor of Journal of Social Issues and SPSSI President-Elect.

Courtney Chappell, J.D., Policy Director, National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum, will discuss reproductive health and its relationship to physical, mental, and social well-being.

Anita Raj, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Boston University School of Public Health, will highlight current reproductive health disparities affecting immigrant women.

Amita Vyas, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Department of Prevention and Community, George Washington University, will address the social, cultural, and behavioral factors contributing to current reproductive health disparities.

Maria Gomez, R.N., M.P.H., President/CEO, Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Care, will share her experiences as a health care provider and address the challenges of serving a predominantly immigrant community.

Angela Hooten, J.D., Associate Director of Policy and Advocacy, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, will offer policy recommendations about how to improve immigrant women’s reproductive health.
