Dr. Abir Aldhalimi

James Marshall Public Policy Fellow, 2017 - 2018

Abir Aldhalimi, Ph.D. was SPSSI's 2017-2018 James Marshall Public Policy Fellow. She worked on health policy in Senator Maggie Hassan’s office (NH). Dr. Aldhalimi worked on a variety of issues in the realm of health policy, including mental health and opioid epidemic related legislation.  

Dr. Aldhalimi received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Detroit Mercy. She completed her pre-doctoral internship in Behavioral Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine and her post-doctoral fellowship in Behavioral Pain Management at Stanford University School of Medicine.

Dr. Aldhalimi has dedicated her research and clinical practice to better understanding the psychological, biological, and social impact of psychological trauma and chronic stress in vulnerable and disenfranchised populations, including refugees. Dr. Aldhalimi has also conducted research investigating the relationship between socioeconomic factors, stigma, and health outcomes in refugees and immigrants following their resettlement in the United States and abroad. 

Prior to her graduate studies, Dr. Aldhalimi worked in non-profit agencies on issues pertaining to refugee integration difficulties in Detroit.
