The following are SPSSI programs accepting applications with upcoming deadlines.

Hi Everyone,

There are terrific opportunities for SPSSI grants and awards that we hope you are aware of. SPSSI as an organization is committed to all of us working together to make a difference. The grants and awards make this possible. One of the awards or grants may be of interest to you, but also consider someone you know who could benefit and let them know of these opportunities!

SPSSI is now accepting submissions for the Louise Kidder Early Career Award. The Louise Kidder Early Career Award was designed to recognize social issues researchers who have made substantial contributions to their field early in their careers.  Nominees should be investigators who have made substantial contributions to social issues research within ten years of receiving a graduate degree and who have demonstrated the potential to continue such contributions. Nominees need not be current SPSSI members. The winner will receive $500 and a plaque. For more information and to apply visit the Louis Kidder Early Career Award page. Deadline: June 1, 2022.

Gordon Allport Prize
SPSSI is now accepting submissions for the Gordon Allport Intergroup Relations Prize. The Gordon Allport Intergroup Relations Prize was designed to honor "the best paper or article of the year on intergroup relations," about which Professor Allport cared deeply. The Winner will receive $1000. For more information and to apply visit the Gordon Allport Prize page. Deadline: June 15, 2022 for submissions officially published in 2021.

Joint SPSSI-EASP International Conferences
The small conference program is part of a collaboration between the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) and the European Association of Social Psychology (EASP). The purpose of the collaboration is to help strengthen links between the two organizations so that members of each may have opportunities to discuss research questions of mutual interest.  Proposals are invited for grants to support small, international conferences, to be sited in North America or Europe. Both SPSSI and EASP will provide $3500, for a total grant of $7000 to support the selected meeting. Only one meeting per year is selected for the award. For more information, visit the Joint SPSSI-EASP International Conferences page. Deadline: August 1, 2022, for conferences to be held in 2023 in Europe.

Local- and State-Level Policy Work Grants
The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) is pleased to invite proposals for grants to support local- and state-level research/policy groups. SPSSI will fund up to three groups, at up to $2000 each, for each award cycle. This grant initiative, begun in 2015, has three goals: 1) to influence policy at the local and state levels through applied research, 2) to increase the availability of policy opportunities for SPSSI members who are interested in applied research, and 3) to encourage students and early career scholars to become more involved in SPSSI. For more information and to apply visit the Local- and State-Level Policy Work Grants page. Deadline: September 1, 2022.

SEAS Grants
SPSSI is now accepting applications for SEAS grants, which are intended to promote awareness of SPSSI, to identify potential new members, and to promote SPSSI membership through support of:
• Small-scale events hosted at a member’s institution or other local venue related to the psychological study of social issues. These events may include, but are not limited to, departmental or institutional speakers or speaker series, research symposia, brown-bag events or series, or mini-conferences.
• Initiatives that enhance SPSSI membership through the creation of researcher links, networks, and other collaborative opportunities, including building connections among early career, graduate student, new, and established members.
• Pre-conferences or smaller meeting attached to larger conferences where the theme and content of the meeting is related to the psychological study of social issues.
Up to $1,000 USD will be awarded based on actual expenses. For more information and to apply visit the SEAS Grants page. Deadline: September 15, 2022

SPSSI Teaching Resources Award
SPSSI is now accepting applications for teaching resources awards to reward innovative activities, assignments, and projects related to the psychological study of social issues. Five prizes of $150 will be awarded to SPSSI members who have developed novel resources that advance students’ understanding of social issues and can be used in a variety of settings (e.g., on ground/online, small or large groups). For more information and to apply visit the SPSSI Teaching Resources Award page. Deadline:  September 15, 2022

The Committee welcomes proposals involving (a) unique and timely research opportunities, (b) underrepresented institutions, graduate students, and junior scholars, (c) volunteer research teams, and (d) actual, not pilot, projects. Funds may be used for various research activities, but are not available for the indirect costs of institutions. Up to $2000 in funding is available to SPSSI members who already have a PhD and up to $1000 for pre-doctoral work. For more information and to apply visit the Researchers in the Global South Grants page. Deadline:  October 1, 2022.

Grants-in-Aid
SPSSI is now accepting applications for its Grants-in-Aid program. The SPSSI Committee on Grants-in-Aid (GIA) wishes to support scientific research in social problem areas related to the basic interests and goals of SPSSI and particularly those that are not likely to receive support from traditional sources. The Committee especially encourages proposals involving (a) unique and timely research opportunities, (b) underrepresented institutions, graduate students, and junior scholars, (c) volunteer research teams, and (d) actual, not pilot, projects. Funds are not normally provided for travel to conventions, travel or living expenses while conducting research, stipends of principal investigators, costs associated with manuscript preparation, or the indirect costs of institutions. Up to $1000 in funding is available to awardees. For more information and to apply visit the Grants-in-Aid page. Deadline:  October 15, 2022.

Studies of the application of theory or the design of interventions or treatments to address these problems are welcome. Up to six grants will be awarded each cycle. The maximum amount of any grant is $1,000. Proposals that include a college or university agreement to match the amount requested will be favored, but proposals without matching funds will also be considered.
