Claude Louis is a fourth year Haitian American Counseling Psychology Ph.D. candidate at Loyola University Chicago and a licensed therapist in Connecticut and Illinois. As an identity researcher, Claude investigates how individuals understand and navigate their social identities, particularly in the context of marginalization, and how these identity processes shape well-being, sociopolitical efficacy, political literacy, and engagement. His research explores the psychological and systemic mechanisms through which internalized oppression, perceived status, and structural inequities influence help-seeking, political disillusionment, and pathways to collective action. Claude is especially interested in how identity meaning making contributes to both personal healing and broader liberation movements.

Outside of his academic and clinical work, Claude enjoys reading comic books, building Lego sets, discovering new music across Chicago’s vibrant scene, and connecting with family and friends, often over a good meal from one of the city’s many great restaurants.

Policy interest include housing initiatives, justice-informed care models for individuals with serious mental illness, veterans’ mental health care, expanding mental health access in urban communities, mental health and well-being of historically excluded populations in education, and supporting community-based solutions such as mutual aid networks.
