Amanda Anzovino earned her Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology and Law with a graduate minor in Statistics from the University of Wyoming. Amanda’s professional interests are in social justice research, advocacy, and public policy analysis. Using robust research methodology, Amanda applies social and cognitive psychological theories to the criminal-legal system to identify biases, better understand legal decision-making, and inform public policy. Through multiple research awards and grants, Amanda has collaborated both domestically and internationally to examine ways we can better support survivors of sexual assault as they navigate the criminal-legal system. Additionally, Amanda has utilized her research background to support various projects outside of psychology in two graduate internships with the Government Accountability Office, internships with non-profits (e.g., Feminist Majority Foundation and DoSomething.org), and as a research consultant to law centers.

As the James Marshall Public Policy Fellow, Amanda will spend one year working full time in a Congressional office here in Washington, DC! The SPSSI James Marshall Public Policy Fellowship trains early career scientists to 1) contribute to the effective use of scientific knowledge about social issues in the formation of public policy at the federal level; 2) educate the scientific community about how research can contribute to the development of public policy; and 3) establish a more effective liaison between social scientists and various policymaking mechanisms.
