Patrick R. Grzanka is University Diversity and Social Transformation Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and Psychology at the University of Michigan. Prior to joining UM, he was Professor of Psychology and inaugural Divisional Dean for Social Sciences at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His work has explored topics including LGBT+ issues in counseling and psychotherapy, including discrimination in help-seeking; race, racism, and emotion; reproductive justice activism, abortion attitudes, and contraception; the psychology of precarity and neoliberalism; essentialist beliefs about sexual orientation; and the uses of intersectionality in social science. He is the editor of Intersectionality: Foundations and Frontiers (3rd edition forthcoming, Routledge), and his first monograph, The ‘Born This Way’ Wars: Sexuality, Science, and the Future of Equality, is under contract with Cambridge. He was associate editor of Journal of Counseling Psychology (2017-2023) and has guest edited special issues of American Psychologist, Journal of Counseling Psychology, Translational Issues in Psychological Science, and Sexuality Research and Social Policy. Grzanka is former President of SPSSI (2023-2024) and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association.
