2007 Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring Award Winner (Undergraduate Institutions) | Dr. Ronald Cohen, Bennington College. In his 35 years of teaching at Bennington, Professor Cohen has taught many courses related to social justice, including “(In)Justice and Conflict Resolution” and “Shhh: The Social Construction of Silence, Conformity and Dissent.” He also has engaged students in a wide variety of justice-related community projects. Students and colleagues describe him as both demanding and inspiring, with an impressive ability to “combine ideas with a clear focus on particular policy issues,” and find taking classes with him “transformative.” Among his many other community activities that have a pedagogical component, Professor Cohen is the founder of the Bennington Community Justice Center, where he developed a series called “Doing Justice” for Bennington’s community access TV.
