Hello SPSSI Graduate Student Members! I am your 2017-2018 editor for The Rookie, and I am currently serving as your Communications Member-at-Large. We’ve been working hard this year to share the amazing work being done by SPSSI graduate student members in The Rookie, our SPSSI GSC Facebook page, and to the broader SPSSI member base.

As mentioned in our last publication, the Graduate Student Committee has been working on developing a series of outlets for graduate student members to showcase their work. First, students can submit an article to be featured in our next issue of The Rookie (the submission guidelines can be found online). You can email your submissions directly to me at spssi.rookie@gmail.com. In addition, we are running a Graduate Student Spotlight series on our Facebook page which highlights recently published or presented work from our student members. We have loved the feedback and interest in this option! We have been able to highlight some really great projects/papers on our page (check it out if you haven’t already). If you would like to be featured please email GSC Chair-Elect Angela Robinson at angelarr@uci.edu.

Moving forward, our goals remain the same. We aim for our social media content and The Rookie publication to reflect the voices of our student members. We want to hear from you if you have any suggestions or questions about our featured content or goals. Further, we hope to really highlight the diversity in our current membership and are specifically recruiting for submissions to the Rookie and our Facebook page to meet that goal. If you have any thoughts, submission ideas, or work to highlight please email us directly or reach out on our Facebook page.

Don’t forget that the SPSSI’s 2018 Summer Conference in Pittsburgh, PA is coming up quickly! I am looking forward to meeting many of you there! Feel free to come introduce yourself to our committee members and chat with us directly about any thoughts/suggestions you have.
