Journal of Social Issues Seeks Submissions Under New Guidelines

Carey Ryan, Ph.D., Editor of the Journal of Social Issues, University of Nebraska – Omaha

Changes have been made to the submission guidelines for SPSSI’s flagship journal, the Journal of Social Issues, to promote inclusivity and timeliness while maintain high quality. Issues of JSI continue to be edited by experts who bring multiple theoretical and empirical perspectives to bear on a single topic. However, the informal proposal step has been eliminated. Those interested in editing an issue are encouraged to email the Editor directly to inquire about the appropriateness of the topic for the journal. In addition, Issue Editors may now identify contributors for their issue by developing a Call for Paper Proposals (i.e., detailed abstracts) with guidance from the JSI Editor. Once a Call has been approved, the Issue Editors disseminate the Call to SPSSI members and other listservs, review the abstracts that are submitted, select those they wish to include in their JSI issue, and submit a formal proposal to the JSI Editor. Issue Editors have already disseminated a number of Calls for Paper Proposals, which have been posted on the SPSSI and Wiley websites; the responses have greatly exceeded expectations.
