SPSSI's Courtwatch Committee prepares the Judicial Notebook column published in the APA Monitor for two purposes. One is to make readers aware of court decisions that may affect their professional practice or be of interest to them. The more important purpose, however, is to let psychologists (and other social scientists) know about pending cases or legislation in which they might become professionally involved.

Each month, one committee member focuses on one or more cases that either can be informed by psychological research or have implications for the professional practice of psychology. Members try to locate relevant cases before the U.S. Supreme Court or cases that address important state or federal appellate cases. In their column, the committee member summarizes the case and provides an analysis of the relevant psychological issues.
