SIPR Editor(s), 2027-2029 - Call for Nominations

Nominations are now being accepted for the next Editor(s) of Social Issues and Policy Review (SIPR), a journal of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI). SIPR publishes one volume a year, with papers added to that issue as they are completed.

The mission: Social Issues and Policy Review (SIPR) provides state of the art and timely theoretical and empirical reviews of topics and programs of research that are directly relevant to understanding and addressing social issues and public policy. SIPR, like other review volumes (e.g., Annual Review of Psychology and Advances in Experimental Social Psychology), is formally considered a periodical. Papers are accessible and relevant to a broad audience and are normally based on a program of research. Articles in SIPR represent perspectives directly relevant to the psychological study of social issues and public policy. SIPR volumes are nonthematic; that is, the papers within each volume focus on a variety of topics. Manuscripts may be invited by the Editor(s) or submitted openly to SIPR, but all are peer-reviewed by editorial board members and other appropriate experts.

Editorial tenure and skills: Editor(s) will be expected to work with the current Editors as soon as they are appointed to solicit manuscripts. (Note that SIPR currently has co-editors, although that is not a requirement.) The incoming Editor(s) will start as Editors-elect in Fall 2026 and will become masthead editors for three years, starting in January 2027. The Editor(s) will need scientific, editorial, interpersonal, and organizational abilities. They will advise authors of potential articles on their relevance to the journal, as well as select an advisory board and peer reviewers to evaluate articles as they are submitted. SPSSI has a strong commitment to diversity, and members of historically underrepresented groups in psychology are encouraged to apply. The Editor(s) will work with SIPR's publisher to ensure the timely publication of each paper, attend one SPSSI Council meeting each year, and prepare editorial reports for Council meetings and the newsletter. How to apply: Self-nominations and nominations of colleagues are encouraged. Submit nominations to Anila Balkissoon, SPSSI Executive Director (abalkissoon@spssi.org), with “SIPR Editorial Search” in the subject line of your email. Those interested should email (a) a copy of their CV; (b) a statement (no more than 750 words) describing their reasons for interest in the position, previous editorial experience, and vision and views about the future direction of SIPR; and (c) contact information for two referees. Deadline for submissions is July 15, 2026.
