Call for Nominations
JSI Editor, 2022-2025

Nominations are currently being accepted for the next Editor of the Journal of Social Issues (JSI).  Colleague nominations and self-nominations are welcomed.  The Editor-elect will begin this fall and serve as Editor for the JSI volumes published in 2022-2025.

JSI is The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues’ (SPSSI’s) flagship publication. As such, it is a key outlet for the scholarly work of SPSSI members and contributes greatly to the Society's well-being. Each issue of JSI is thematic, involving issue editors working alongside the JSI Editor. Issue editors develop their social issues theme and solicit contributors. The process starts with a theme, with issue editors checking with the JSI editor to ensure appropriateness of the proposed topic.  A full proposal is then sent to the JSI editor, with contributors and proposed abstracts. Initial review occurs at that point. A timeline is set, with the issue editors submitting completed articles to the JSI editor for full review from the editorial board.

The Editor will need scientific, editorial, interpersonal, and organizational abilities. They will advise potential Issue Editors on the development of issues and will have proposals as well as full manuscripts reviewed. The Editor will also work with JSI’s publisher Wiley, to ensure the timely publication of issues, SPSSI’s summer Council meeting at SPSSI expense,, and prepare various editorial reports. For information about the current JSI operations, please go to JSI’s webpage: www.spssi.org/jsi. The Editor receives a stipend and expenses to support the work.

Please submit nomination materials for the Editor-elect position to SPSSI’s Executive Director Anila Balkissoon (abalkissoon@spssi.org).  Please type “JSI editorial search” in the subject line. The Search Committee consists of SPSSI’s Publications Committee, Drs. Chris Crandall and Geoff Maruyama, Co-chairs, along with members Drs. Sander van der Linden and Desdamona Rios, to whom questions may be addressed. Applications will reviewed as soon as possible on a rolling basis or until the position is filled.  Those candidates agreeing to stand for consideration will be asked to submit a copy of their Curriculum Vita/Resumes to Anila Balkissoon, SPSSI’s Executive Director (abalkissoon@spssi.org), an indication of their previous editorial experience, familiarity and involvement with JSI, a statement of their vision and views on the direction and operation of the journal, and names of three references.
