The SPSSI Graduate Student Committee Preconference will take place on June 20, 2024, immediately preceding the SPSSI Summer Conference, which begins on Friday, June 21 and ends on Sunday, June 23, 2024. Typically, the preconference breakfast begins at 8:30 am and the programming begins at 9:00 am. Programming typically ends by 4 pm, and will be immediately followed by a happy hour event for all preconference attendees. Breakfast, lunch, and happy hour hors d'oeuvres are included as part of the programming and are reflected in the registration fee.

The preconference is being planned by the SPSSI Graduate Student Committee in collaboration with the Conference Co-Chairs, Executive Committee, and other SPSSI members.

This year’s theme is The Importance of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion - and How Accessibility and Retention Are Often Left Out. The recent 2023 Supreme Court decision to overrule the landmark affirmative action precedent is exemplary of why research around issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is so important. Now, more than ever, there is a profound need for empirically sound researchers to bring diverse thought and experience to the classroom and to policy. The purpose of this event is to elucidate why DEI remains necessary, and why accessibility and retention are often forgotten when discussing making spaces more equitable.

More details on the program for this year's GSC Preconference Workshop will be posted as they become available.
